  21.     For many years I've been flying to Topeka on a fairly 
  22. regular basis to visit the folks at NewTek. During this time I've had 
  23. the opportunity to get early glimpses of several Toaster and 
  24. LightWave 3D upgrades, the Flyer and other NewTek-developed 
  25. technologies. Getting an insider's view of the workings of NewTek 
  26. has always been an emotional, double-edged sword. On one hand, it 
  27. is very interesting and enlightening to be able to learn about new 
  28. products and follow their progress through the development cycle. 
  29. On the other hand, it is very frustrating to have extensive 
  30. knowledge about something of interest to so many people and, 
  31. because of non-disclosure agreements, not be able to talk about it. 
  32.     A few days ago I traveled to Topeka to discuss plans for the 
  33. upcoming NAB trade show, and to gather information for a special 
  34. report that we will be distributing at NewTek's pre-NAB meetings 
  35. and at the Video Toaster User Pavilion. While I was there, I spent 
  36. time with various NewTek staffers gathering the details on the 4.0 
  37. versions of the Flyer, Toaster System and LightWave 3D. NewTek 
  38. has never had so many new products ready to show for NAB, and I 
  39. could sense an even higher level of activity than the usual pre-NAB 
  40. frenzy. 
  41.     One evening VTU Publisher, Michael Kornet, and I met 
  42. with NewTek President, Tim Jenison, to discuss NewTek's presence 
  43. at NAB, and to seek details about a long-rumoured NewTek 
  44. desktop video product that would work on standard PC's. We spent 
  45. the better part of the evening shaking our heads in happy 
  46. amazement at what he told and showed us.  Because of the 
  47. aforementioned non-disclosure agreements, it is not possible for me 
  48. to discuss the features of NewTek's new product. These details will 
  49. be revealed to the public for the first time at NewTek's pre-NAB 
  50. reception at 5:00 PM on Sunday April 9th at Caesar's Palace. 
  51.     I can say that Michael and I were extremely impressed by 
  52. the elegance of the new product. I don't mean elegance in terms of 
  53. appearance (although it is quite striking), I mean elegance in the 
  54. way it serves the needs of NewTek's installed base, while also 
  55. throwing open the doors for dramatic future growth. This product is 
  56. based on existing Video Toaster Flyer technology, and current Flyer 
  57. owners will have a clear upgrade path should they choose it without 
  58. sacrificing a single penny of their investment in their current Flyer 
  59. hardware. 
  60.     I know it is cruel to tease, and I've probably said too much 
  61. already, but I feel the risk is justified to encourage Toaster users, 
  62. LightWave 3D animators and anyone else interested in 
  63. videography, non-linear editing and videographics to make all 
  64. efforts to travel to NAB next month for a first-hand look at this 
  65. great new product. Not to mention LightWave 4.0, Flyer and 
  66. Toaster System 4.0 and a whole bunch of Toaster and LightWave 
  67. 3rd party developers at the Video Toaster User Pavilion.  I think I 
  68. can say with reasonable certainty, you will not be disappointed 
  69. (unless you're a NewTek competitor.)
